Irene del Pilar, Madrid-born and raised, is an actress, dancer, director and assistant producer.
Irene studied acting and directing at the Chekhov Chambre Theatre of Ángel Gutiérrez in Madrid, where she built her foundation in classical theatre. As a dancer, she has studied dance theatre with a particular interesting the Rudolf von Laban technique. Irene has studied Humanities at the Charles III University of Madrid, Art Music and Performance at Roma Tre University, Italy; Cinema and TV at the Charles III University in Madrid; and has had acting and directing lessons by prestigious Spanish filmmakers including David Trueba, Miguel Albaladejo, Enrique Urbizu, Fernando Colomo, Vicente Aranda.
Irene has been involved in many theatrical productions including: the leading actress with the director Antonio Tarallo in ‘Alla fine dell Terzo Atto’; stable actress and dancer for the Chekhov Chambre Theatre of Ángel Gutiérrez in Madrid for seven years including roles in the ‘The Jealous Old Man’ (El Viejo Celoso), in which she received best actress award in the national tour around San Juan of Puerto Rico; also ‘The Talkers’ (Los Habladores), ‘El Quijote’ by Miguel de Cervantes, ‘The Olives’ by Lope de Rueda. Other plays were ‘The Little Prince’ by Antoine Saint-Exupéry, ‘The Proposal’ and ‘The Wedding’ by Anton Chekhov.
Irene has experience working in the Culture Department of the Charles III University, working on advertisements and movies for Spanish Television including ‘Accused’. She has also worked for the News Department in Antenna 3TV Spanish National Broadcaster as Production Assistant.
Now Melbourne-based, as a dancer and actress Irene has been involved in ‘House Husbands’ (TV Series), ‘Venize in Love’ by Rosa Campagnaro Make a Scene Commedia dell’ arte company, ‘Un Ballo in Maschera’ of Verdi produced by La Fura del’s Baus and Opera Australia, ‘Blood Wedding’ of Federico Garcia Lorca directed by Marion Potts at the Malthouse Theatre, and ‘Crime and Punishment’ January Films Productions directed by Andrew O’Keef. She has acted in several Australian short movies including: ‘Barefoot’ by Enrico Altavilla and ‘The Lark’ by Xaris Miller.
As a director Irene has developed & produced the ‘Home Sweet Theatre Community Project’, staging a postmodern Chekhov adaptation for the Melbourne Fringe Festival, as well as ‘Rift’ for Blink Dance Theatre, ‘Angst’ produced by Spanish Australia Magazine, ‘Rapunzel’s Cousin’ for European Languages Theatre Festival and Spanish Consulate, ‘Almost Love on Sydney Rd’ for the Sydney Rd Short Film Competition, ‘Mr. Right’, Australian Centre of Performing Arts, and ‘Heating & Ice cream’ where she co-created online videos for Starbucks viral marketing, receiving millions of visits.
Irene has been part of Directors Lab 2015 Melbourne organised by Theatre Works for Melbourne Festival 2015.
